Shallot Onion Thokku is a proposed addition to Green Diamond Foods' Thokku Varieties range — a thick, slow-cooked condiment made from shallots (small onions), tamarind, and tempering spices, in the tradition of South Indian pickle-style thokkus.
Mixed with hot rice and a little ghee or oil, or served as a side with idli, dosa, chapati, or curd rice — the same way other thokkus in the category are eaten, ready straight from the jar with no further cooking.
If introduced, it would sit alongside the brand's other Thokku Varieties and its existing Shallot Onion Powder — using the same base ingredient in a ready-to-eat, wet-condiment form rather than a dry cooking powder. It would be produced by Adippadai Agro Foods (OPC) Pvt. Ltd., Oddanchatram, Dindigul, Tamil Nadu.
Shallot Onion Thokku is a ready-to-eat condiment, straight from the jar with rice or tiffin. Shallot Onion Powder (already in the Green Diamond Foods range) is a dry ingredient added while cooking other dishes. Same base ingredient, two different uses.
